Part of planning your wedding is finding the right vendors for your day. It’s important to find vendors that you connect with and that you trust. When it comes time to book a wedding photographer, it can be tricky to know what you need to know. Unless you’re a photographer or have experience in the wedding industry, you might not think of all of the in’s and out’s of the job.
That’s why I’ve put together a list of questions you can ask potential wedding photographers when you sit down for your consultation with them. Side note – I do believe that a consultation is necessary when booking a photographer. It’s important to see them face to face because the truth is, you’re probably going to spend more time with your photographer than anyone else on your wedding day. Make sure you like them!
Without further ado, here is a list of questions you should be asking potential wedding photographers:
Their Experience
How long have you been shooting weddings for?
Are you confident in lighting my venue?
Do you have backup equipment?
How do you backup our photos after the wedding day?
Do you have business insurance?
The Details
What is your plan in case you are not able to photograph our wedding?
Do you work with second shooters who you’ve trained?
How do you determine who will second shoot on our wedding day?
When can we expect to receive the photography timeline from you?
The Approach
What would you say your approach is to photographing a wedding day?
How much posing do you direct versus natural candids?
What does our engagement session look like? Do you help us plan for that?
How do you help us prepare for having a photo-friendly wedding day?
The Delivery
Do we receive a sneak peek of our images?
What is your turnaround time for a full gallery?
Will we receive high resolution photos from our gallery?
How long will our online gallery stay live for?
Do you offer prints and albums?
What does the design process look like for albums?
