Kendall and Garrett chose to save their first look for the altar, and the moment Kendall walked down the aisle toward Garrett inside their stunning Catholic church was one of the most emotional and beautiful moments of the entire day. There is something so powerful about a couple who saves that very first glimpse for the ceremony, and the raw emotion on Garrett’s face when he saw Kendall for the first time is exactly the kind of moment that reminds me why I love being a wedding photographer more than anything.
The Catholic ceremony was grand, heartfelt, and steeped in the kind of tradition and meaning that makes a wedding feel like so much more than just a party. Surrounded by family and friends who have watched Kendall and Garrett’s love story unfold over the years, the vows exchanged in that beautiful church felt deeply significant and genuinely moving.
After the ceremony we set out across Kansas City for portraits, taking full advantage of the golden summer light and some of the city’s most stunning locations. The sleek modern architecture of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts gave us a bold and editorial backdrop that contrasted beautifully with the romantic elegance of the day, while the lush greenery and sweeping city views of Kessler Park added a natural and scenic quality that felt perfectly suited to Kendall and Garrett’s refined yet relaxed style. The variety of portrait locations throughout the city gave their gallery a richness and depth that tells the full story of their Kansas City wedding day beautifully. For a closer look at how your portrait locations shape the overall feel of your wedding gallery, my guide on Styling Your Wedding Flat Lay Details has some really helpful inspiration for thinking through those visual details intentionally.
Then came the reception at The Grand Hall at Power & Light, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The elegant blue palette carried beautifully throughout the space in stunning floral arrangements by Wild Hill Flowers, creating a refined and cohesive look that felt both timeless and fresh. Tables were beautifully appointed with thoughtful details throughout, and the overall atmosphere was warm, celebratory, and absolutely gorgeous from every angle. Catering by Garozzo’s Ristorante was absolutely delicious, a stunning cake by McLain’s Bakery KC was as beautiful as it was incredible, and DJ Hy Dan kept the energy perfectly calibrated and the dance floor completely full all night long.
And then came the moment that had every single guest absolutely losing their minds with joy. A surprise visit from Big Jay, the beloved University of Kansas Jayhawks mascot, brought the house down in the most spectacular and perfectly on brand way imaginable. As proud KU alumni Kendall and Garrett could not have dreamed up a better surprise, and watching Big Jay hit the dance floor while the entire room erupted with laughter and excitement was one of the most joyful and unforgettable moments I have ever witnessed at a wedding. It was pure magic.
