There’s something magical about an engagement session that blends timeless elegance with playful romance, and Makenzie and Jaison’s romantic Kansas City engagement shoot was just that. With two iconic locations—The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Loose Park—we captured a love story full of laughter, movement, and golden light.
Starting at the Romantic Kansas City Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
Makenzie and Jaison arrived at The Nelson-Atkins Museum in outfits that radiated classic elegance. Makenzie wore a stunning off-the-shoulder black dress from Revolve, while Jaison complemented her perfectly in a black suit and crisp white shirt. Against the grand architecture of this romantic Kansas City landmark, their look was effortlessly refined, evoking a timeless and intimate feel.
Even with their sophisticated attire, their energy was lighthearted and full of joy. They laughed through the entire session, making every moment feel genuine and authentic. One of my favorite moments was when I asked Makenzie to whisper her favorite cereal brand in Jaison’s ear and convince him to be an advocate for it. She chose Froot Loops. When I told Jaison to playfully argue against it, he hesitated before saying, “I hate Froot Loops because I hate circles.” That moment had us all cracking up, resulting in some of the best candid shots of the day.
A Golden Glow at Loose Park
As the sun started to dip lower in the sky, we headed to Loose Park, another romantic Kansas City engagement location. Makenzie and Jaison changed into more casual outfits, and the golden sunlight filtering through the tall, scattered trees made for a dreamy atmosphere. I love this park because of its wide-open spaces and how the light softly glows between the trees—perfect for creating soft, light, and airy engagement photos.
We incorporated a mix of movement shots—walking, twirling, and bumping into each other—along with classic, elegant poses to create a collection of images that will stand the test of time. One of the highlights of the session was their champagne pop! They brought a bottle of champagne and a pair of coupe glasses that were gifted to them—glasses they plan to use at their New Year’s Eve wedding at Melrose Abbey. Seeing them celebrate with a toast made the moment feel even more special, knowing that this tradition will carry over into their wedding day.
A Love Story That Comes Full Circle
During the session, I asked Jaison to share his best pickup line, and he laughed, admitting he didn’t have one. When I joked, “Well, you’re engaged, so something must have worked!” they shared the sweetest story. On New Year’s Eve, Jaison asked Makenzie if he could kiss her. Now, they’re planning their romantic Kansas City wedding for New Year’s Eve 2025. A full-circle moment in every way.
Counting Down to Their Wedding Day
Makenzie and Jaison’s engagement session was a perfect reflection of their relationship—timeless, joyful, and full of love. Their vision for a classic black-and-white wedding is going to be absolutely breathtaking, and I cannot wait to celebrate with them at Melrose Abbey. If their engagement session was any indication, their wedding is going to be one to remember!
