Every once in a while, I love creating something just for the sake of creativity. No timeline, no expectations, just an opportunity to experiment and remind myself why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
For this shoot, I asked my cousin to model for me in my studio. She was actually one of the very first people to ever step in front of my camera more than a decade ago. Back then, I was just beginning to figure things out—learning light, experimenting with posing, and discovering my style.
Over the years, photographing her has become a bit of a tradition for me. Every time we do a session together, it feels like a little time capsule. I get to see how much she has grown up, and I get to reflect on how much my work has evolved since those early days.
For this particular shoot, I wanted to challenge myself creatively with something very simple: a white backdrop.
Instead of relying on elaborate sets or props, I focused on how lighting, posing, and wardrobe could create shape and movement within the frame. We leaned into color blocking and clean silhouettes, using strong lines and intentional posing to create images that felt sculptural and graphic.
It became an exercise in restraint—keeping the environment minimal so the composition, angles, and body movement could carry the visual interest. Watching how small shifts in posture or the drape of clothing could completely change the shape of an image was incredibly inspiring.
Some of my favorite photos from the session came from the simplest moments. A turn of the shoulder. The way fabric moved when she stepped forward. The negative space created by a bent arm or the curve of her back.
Shoots like this remind me that creativity does not always require more. Sometimes the most interesting images come from limiting the variables and exploring what is possible within a very simple space.
And perhaps the best part of all is getting to do it with someone who has been part of my photography journey from the very beginning.
